Dean Shoultz Chair of IMX 2018 Cybersecurity Panel
Houma, LA • St. Louis, MO • May 21, 2018MarineCFO would like to welcome everyone attending the 2018 Inland Marine Expo (IMX) to visit us at booth #843. We are exhibiting along with Decatur Marine and Conley Marine.MarineCFO’s CTO, Dean Shoultz, has been invited to curate a panel of experts for an IMX Education Session on the topic of cybersecurity. Historically, cybersecurity has been of little concern to the maritime industry, and even less so to the inland sector. Recent events, however, are changing the outlook on the true risks to vessel operators that accompany a cyberattack. Many operators have taken a wait and see approach to this threat, but with increased automation of critical machinery and on-vessel systems moving to the cloud, the time to address this issue is now.To make matters more problematic, established marine insurance policy standards specifically exclude matters related to cybersecurity. The crux of this issue is that if a cyberattack cripples your propulsion, or ransomware hijacks your navigation system — you are likely not covered.Dean Shoultz has gathered speakers for this panel that consist of industry experts from a variety of fields, and they will provide valuable information you can use to start your cyber planning. Panelists include representatives from Microsoft, TPO/Class Society, maritime insurance providers, maritime legal firms, and maritime technology firms. A range of topics will be discussed, including insurance policy tweaking, integrating cyber drills into your TSMS/SMS, the legal implications of not preparing and crew training, along with practical ways of planning and preventing an incident.“At MarineCFO our mission is to provide technology leadership and digital transformation solutions to the maritime industry, enabling our customers to operate more safely, securely, and profitably,” said David Hanowski, MarineCFO CEO. “This year at IMX we will continue to demonstrate our mission and how through working with our partners, we are able to provide the inland maritime operators best of breed products and best of breed services.”
MarineCFO’s Vessel 365 exceeds all the SubChapter M recordkeeping requirements both as a Towing Vessel Record and as an alternative TSMS recordkeeping solution. Because Vessel 365 stores Subchapter M mandated “objective evidence,” our solution helps minimize the towing operators’ exposure to Jones Act litigation. Statutory entries for chronological vessel activities, personnel, safety, fire systems, navigation, assessments, nonconformities, & document management are all included in the Vessel 365 feature set. At MarineCFO, our vision and mission is to be the technology thought leader in the global Workboat Industry. Through technology thought leadership, provide products and services that empower workboat operators with Vessel Enterprise Resource Planning through sustainable data collection, tasking, and decision making tools.
