Background

MarineCFO Inc. was formed in 2007 for the purpose of commercializing internationally the “Marine Related” assets and intellectual property (IP) of Advanced Software Development Inc (ASD).

ASD, in business since 1993, developed UA Business Software, the first accounting / business management product developed on Microsoft Office Technologies. Since 1993 their software has been installed in over 6000 customer sites through a global network of 400 re-sellers. In late 2003, ASD was approached by a local marine transportation company to enhance the core UA Business Software solution with “marine specific” enhancements. As this customer project progressed, other Marine Transportation companies, through “word of mouth”, became aware and also approached ASD. It became apparent that there was no commercial software available to meet their complex and changing needs.

In 2006, ASD’s CEO/CTO Dean Shoultz came to the realization that the comprehensive Marine Transportation modules developed to meet customer needs should be packaged and productized and MarineCFO was introduced at the 2006 International Workboat Show (www.workboatshow.com ).

Realizing that commercializing into a vertical niche market like Marine Transportation was significantly different than horizontal accounting software, Dean approached Microsoft to assist. A trusted advisor at Microsoft, introduced and recommended EmergingISV www.emergingisv.com , a technology acceleration company/fund headed by two proven serial software entrepreneurs, Kevin Hein and Brent Stankowski. Impressed by the people, the technology and the opportunity, EmergingISV not only lead an investment round, but Brent Stankowski and Kevin Hein joined the Management Team in June 2007.
